Masquerade was concocted while I was standing in the back of what could best be described as an industry dive bar in Nashville, TN. I'm not sure where my head was that evening, but at that moment, I found myself watching in disgust as a bunch of folks tried so hard to impress other people, even if it meant being someone they weren't to do it. This has always bothered me even though I know that I'm just one of the lucky ones who knows who they are and takes the time to keep figuring that out and keep myself in check. I immediately pulled out my phone and started venting and throwing out lyrics. I love this job, always have, and I always will. I will continue to do it until I die because I love the music, though, not because I love the industry. The industry can take an artist and shatter them and leave them lying there in pieces. You have to stay focused on who you are and why you do it. Here's Masquerade.

Lyrics

Welcome to the masquerade
Everybody’s got two faces
Made mine out of papier-mâché
It melted off when it started raining

I felt exposed
But it felt great
I felt like me
Oh and everything else just felt so fake

Tell me who to be they cried
As the crowd gathered round disgusted
The same feelings they always kept inside
They remember when they could’ve been trusted

Said they felt exposed
But somehow great
Said they felt like themselves for the first time
In a room full of people that were all so fake

Ain’t it funny how so many of us
Spend so much time running in the wrong direction
Fall down get turned around just to find you’ve been searching for unrealistic forms of perfection
it is what it is you are who you are
They’ll try hard to make you change
You can lose yourself so easily it seems at the masquerade

All it ever does is make you tired
Try but you’re never gonna please ‘em
Remember when they were something you admired
Now you can’t seem to recall the reason

Cuz they’ve been exposed
And it feels great
You can be yourself for the first time
Who cares what they say cuz they’re all so fake

Yeahhh
Ain’t it funny how so many of us
Spend so much time running in the wrong direction
Fall down get turned around just to find you’ve been searching for unrealistic forms of perfection
it is what it is you are who you are
They’ll try hard to make you change
You can lose yourself so easily it seems at the masquerade

Welcome to the masquerade
Everybody’s got two faces
Knew I needed to make a change
And unlike them I just embraced it

Now I'm exposed
Never felt so great
I am me
Oh and everybody else just seems the same

Welcome to the masquerade
Everybody’s got two faces
